Baking Sugar Cookies: A holiday tradition with a spicy twist!

In our home baking cookies is a big part of the holiday season.  Ginger snaps, oatmeal pecan and sugar cookies are some of our favorites!  This year we decided to try a new sugar cookie recipe — Spiced Holiday Sugar Cookies.  And oh my goodness these are delicious!

Baking Sugar Cookies

Here’s what you’ll need to give these a try:

  • 2 1/3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

And for the frosting:

  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 3 teaspoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 drops food coloring (optional)

Blend and bake according to these directions:

Decorating them is so much fun — second only to eating them!  Wait till you taste them!

They have a wonderful flavor and are a little bit crispy on the outside, but very soft on the inside.  These are sure to be a crowd-pleaser when we share them with friends and family!

Love when I can add a new twist to an old favorite…  Most of all I love making memories with my daughter through the wonderful world of seasonal baking.
